Occupational Summary:

Conduct independent research activities under the guidance of a faculty mentor in preparation for a full time academic or research career.

  • Perform experiments
  • Analyze data
  • Write manuscripts
  • Learn to develop skills
  • Meet with the PI to discuss research plan and development
  • Maintain mouse colonies
  • Participate in lab meetings and other required meetings
  • Present results in Duke, national, and international meetings.

 

Required Qualifications at this Level:

Education/Training

The Postdoctoral Appointee holds a PhD or equivalent doctorate (e.g. ScD, MD, DVM) in an immunology or immunology-related field. Candidates with non-US degrees may be required to provide proof of degree equivalency.

Experience and Skills

  • Work requires expertise in immunological research, including  but not limited to the following techniques:
    • In vivo mouse handling
    • Flow cytometry
    • In vivo and ex vivo immunological assays
    • DNA cloning
    • Mouse genotyping
    • Immunofluorescent microscopy
    • Various biochemical assays
  • Candidates also need to have a PhD level of knowledge and ability to independently plan research activities, successfully perform experiments, troubleshoot, record-keep, and write manuscripts.
