The Department of Emergency Medicine and the Global Emergency Medicine Innovation and Implementation Research (GEMINI) Center are recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate to the Division of Translational Health Sciences.  

 

The position will be focused primarily on analyzing data from a global adaptive clinical trial evaluating the impact of a culturally adapted brief intervention on reducing alcohol-related harms, analyzing data on the social determinants of health in the EM department, writing manuscripts and engaging with the Department faculty in research activities. For the global work, this position will focus on manuscript development and secondary analysis of mediators and moderators.  

 

For the department-specific work the researcher will analyze data, build academic dissemination products, meet weekly with the GEMINI Center members, support grant proposal development and engage with research activities in the department.  

 

For the EM social determinants health opportunity, this position will be responsible for developing and managing data collection tools, developing analysis plans and produce academic reports. Similarly, there may be some travel opportunities in the global health scenario and domestically for dissemination, and plenty of opportunities for career advancement.   

 

Responsibilities: 

 

•Learn background/research methods of studies for which analysis is conducted with limited direction and supervision. 

•Statistical analysis and database management, with preferred experience in programming in R and/or Python 

• Mixed-methods community engagement methodological development 

•Collaborate on multiple research projects at a time. 

•Preparing and explaining data reports to primary investigators. 

•Preparation of independent research manuscripts for publication. 

•Assist with data queries and statistical analysis sections (including power analysis) for research grant proposals. 

•Work effectively with other members of the research team. 

 

 

 

Requirements: 

 

Earned a doctorate (PhD, MD/MPH, etc.) in health systems, social sciences, epidemiology or other health-related fields. 

 

The ideal candidate will have: 

•Strong written and oral communication skills. 

•Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary multinational research team. 

•Collaborate and develop partnerships with local Duke EM partners. 

•Strong quantitative skills in the areas of biostatistics, bioinformatics, and/or epidemiology. 

•Strong programming skills (R or Python preferred). 

•Knowledge or interest in addiction or mental health research, and acute care research. 

•Ability and interest in learning new and innovative methods. 

•Flexibility in working across a wide array of projects and subject matter. 

•Interest in also assisting with recruitment and data collection of ongoing trials and project management.
