JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Kishnani Clinical Research Team is seeking a post-doctoral associate to join their team in the Department of Pediatrics Division of Medical Genetics. The post doc’s research projects will focus on inherited metabolic disorders, specifically glycogen storage diseases (GSDs). The post doc will contribute to the understanding of the cardiac, hepatic, neurologic, and muscular manifestations in GSDs as we have ongoing retrospective and prospective clinical natural history studies to better understand disease progression and clinical outcomes of patients diagnosed with a GSD. This post doc will collaborate with different research team members on other research projects and will use the clinical knowledge to advance the science in GSDs. This post doc position requires a minimum two-year commitment and will consist of a hybrid work arrangement. This position will involve analyzing patient data and coordinating analysis of patient samples. This position does not involve clinical care or bench (traditional laboratory) work.

Requirements:

· MD, MBBS, PhD, DSc, MD/PhD, MD/DSc, MBBS/PhD, or MBBS/DSc in a relevant field

· A strong background in metabolic disorders will be preferred

· Demonstration of conducting clinical research in the past (publications with first authorship and/or scientific/medical writing in peer-reviewed medical journals and platform/poster presentations in conferences/seminars) will be preferred

· Previous experience in grant writing will be preferred

· Previous experience with analyzing and interpreting statistical data will be preferred

· Must possess the knowledge to use citation manager EndNote

· Must be able to accurately translate research findings and relevant literature to a target audience (such as clinicians, geneticists, and other members of the patient care team)

· Must have the knowledge of the authorship guidelines as per the ICMJE guidelines, and be able to follow through all the instruction under each journal’s authorship guidelines for submitting an article

· Demonstration of the following skills:

o Excellent communication skills and an ability to work well with others

o Self-motivated with a strong work ethic

o Detail-oriented and possesses strong planning and organizational skills

o Excellent writing and problem-solving skills

 

Responsibilities:

· Be involved in managing and storing clinical research data (data management) and analyzing data

· Conduct systematic literature reviews, develop hypotheses, critically think, and brainstorm new ideas with the research team

· Regularly collaborate with multiple experts at and outside of Duke, fellow post docs, and the rest of the clinical research team

· Communicate and present research findings at divisional meetings, international conferences, and patient education meetings

· Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals in the form of research articles

· Possess the knowledge of basic research integrity, values of ownership of a research project, and follow timelines to achieve deliverables. Training on responsible conduct of research (RCR) and the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) for conducting research will be provided at Duke.
