Position Description:

We seek a highly-motivated individual eager to conduct clinical research studies, analyze data, and create high-quality first-author publications related to the projects listed above in a supportive environment to join our team. A PhD degree is required with training in neuroscience, human physiology, psychology, pharmacology, and/or a related field. Experience with imaging (MRI / fMRI or other) data collection and analysis, animal or human clinical research, and neuroanatomy is required. The candidate will work in a strong interdisciplinary and collaborative environment at Duke University and Duke Medical Center.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Min Degree Requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.). Should be used for post-doctoral fellows if the candidate has completed all of the requirements fora degree, but the degree has not been formally conferred; the candidate may present evidence of completion of the degree requirements, together with a statement documenting the date on which the degree is to be conferred. Other Credential/Experiential Requirements: The incumbent must be a true post-doctoral fellow registered with the Post Doc Office and per the following requirements:

 

· The term of this appointment is limited (5 years with a possible extension for an additional year)

· The appointment involves substantially full-time research or scholarship, which may include teaching responsibilities.

· The appointment is viewed as preparatory for a full time academic or research career.

· The appointment is not part of a clinical research training program, unless research training under the supervision of a senior mentor is a primary purpose of the appointment.

· The appointee works under the supervision of a scholar or a department at Duke University.

· The appointee has the freedom, and is expected to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of the appointment.

 

Required:

Experience with one or more of the following is required:

(1) neuroimaging using MRI, fMRI, DTI, MR spectrosta analysis, and synthesis of results

(2) recruitment copy, PET in humans (preferred) or animals, including data collection, daand data collection from human and/or clinical populations and excellent patient interaction / rapport

(3) sensory, behavioral, and clinical testing in patients (e.g., pain testing, behavioral tasks, questionnaires) including data collection and analysis.

Ability to formulate hypotheses, ability to independently conduct analysis and experiments, ability to independently write manuscripts and small grant applications all with mentor guidance.

Ability to work with undergraduate students and research staff professionally and productively.

Ability to work with mentor(s) and conduct research as agreed upon between the individual and the mentor.

Ability to troubleshoot and run specialized experimental and analysis software independently with outside tutorials and mentor guidance.
