Postdoctoral Associate in the DeBaun Lab

 

Occupational Summary

A unique opportunity to partner with an academic orthopaedic trauma surgeon to plan,organize, and conduct cutting-edge translational research designed to improvebone heal ing and mitigate infection in traumatically injured patients. Through invivo and in vitro investigation, the research partner will perf orm variouscomplex and independent activities to make meaningful contrib utions toscientific discovery and innovation. This exciting position wil l fosteropportunities for professional growth and personal enrichment as a lead rolewithin a team of students, researchers, and clinicians. Ther e will beopportunities to collaborate with various publicly funded inves tigatorsthroughout the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and industry pa rtners.

 

Work Performed

 

  • Design, execute, anddocument in vitro and in vivo experiments focused onunderstanding and impro ving bone healing with an emphasis on clinical relevance
  • Establish andmaintain protocols consistent with best practices for basic and translationalresearch
  • Collect,evaluate, and interpret data and prepare oral presentations or written reports det ailingprogress, adverse trends, and appropriate conclusions.
  • Confer with the principalinvestigator to take a lead role in preparing manuscripts and proposals relatedto the lab's scope.
  • Supervise thework of team members engaged in experiments an d data collection related to theresearch investigation
  • Attend routinelab meetings and events in the spirit of teamwork, col laboration, and collegiality.

 

This is a one-year appointment and renewable dependent on the viability of grant-funding and job performance pursuant to the term limits set by the Duke Postdoctoral Office.

The Postdoctoral Appointee holds aPhD or equivalentdoctorate (e.g. ScD, MD, DVM). Cand idates with non-US degreesmay be required to provide proof of degree equ ivalency.

1. A candidate may also be appointedto a p ostdoctoral position if the candidate has completed all of therequirements for a degree but the degree has not been formally conferred: inthis c ase, the candidate may present evidence of completion of the degreerequi rements, together with a statement documenting the date on which thedegr ee is to be conferred. If the degree is not conferred by this projectedd ate, the postdoctoral appointment may be terminated.

2. Note for internationalcandidates: Generally, immigration classificat ions (e.g., H-1B, J-1, etc.)require that the requisite degree be conferr ed before a petition can be filedor a visa document issued to sponsor th e individual.
