This role plays a critical administrative and operational part in supporting the Law School’s admissions, enrollment, and academic processes while working closely with students, faculty, and University partners.

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Training:

 

Work generally requires knowledge of office administration and communications, normally acquired through a completion of an Associate’s degree program. 

 

Experience:

Work requires three years of relevant experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

This position provides essential oversight, coordination, and administrative leadership across admissions operations, joint degree enrollment, and exam administration—ensuring compliance, precision, and continuous improvement.

 

What You’ll Do:

 
 
Administrative Oversight of Admissions Operations
 
  • Supervise and coordinate the JD Application processing system, including tasks such as application flow, investigating and resolving incomplete applications, fee waivers
  • Provide oversight to the electronic interface with key data bases, including ACES, LSDAS Reports, and PeopleSoft
  • Assist in coordination in preparation and dissemination of materials to prospective applicants
  • Orient, train and supervise employees who assist in the admissions process, including file readers, students, and office secretary
  • Manage the immunization compliance process for all admitted students
  • Maintain systems of strict quality control to ensure 100% accuracy in communication of admissions decisions
  • Investigate, recommend and implement methods for improving office procedures and service delivery
 
 
Administrative Tracking of Enrollment Process for Joint Degree Students
 
  • Liaison with multiple Duke schools and departments with whom the Law School has joint degree arrangements to ensure consistent tracking of current Law School students and their joint degree enrollment status- applications, late registration, withdrawals, etc.
  • Facilitate a process of ongoing communication with other Law School departments, including the Registrar’s Office, regarding joint degree admissions
 
 
Administrative Back-up for Student Exams Administration
 
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures related to the student examination process so as to be able to step into, or assist with, the exam administrator role
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures regarding accommodated exams so as to be able to step into, or assist with, this aspect of the exam administrator role
 
 
Other Administrative Duties
 
  • Ensure 100% compliance with University record retention policies with regard to prior year Admissions records
  • Respond to applicant emails and phone calls, provide admissions counseling, compose letters and statements independently to applicants, determine which correspondence requires the attention of the Associate Dean
  • Maintain knowledge of the Law School’s programs and admissions requirements in order to provide accurate information to applicants, to interpret requests and to screen requests requiring the attention of the Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial aid
  • Serve as the Law School’s representative to the University-level SISS Advisory Committee and advise the Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, and Law School Registrar of decisions of this Committee that have implications for Law School policies and procedures
  • Coordinate reporting of ethnicity data to the American Bar Association among multiple Law School departments to ensure consistency and accuracy of reports
  • Manage the Admissions budget during the fiscal year, including processing of expenditures and analysis and reporting of budget variances for the Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid
  • Reports to the Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $48,960.00 to USD $77,928.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
