Duke Employee Occupational Health & Wellness (EOHW) within the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health is seeking an experienced Occupational Health Tech for a full-time position.  Duke Employee Occupational Health and Wellness (EOHW) provides services for over 45,000 faculty and staff of the Duke University Health System and Duke University.

 

JOB DUTIES

  • Administer routine vaccinations
  • Maintain detailed records of tests performed and report laboratory test results to appropriate personnel
  • Collect blood specimens from patients using venipuncture or finger stick
  • Perform drug screenings
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients and prepare patients for examinations and procedures
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic laboratory tests on the premises
  • Remove sutures/staples
  • Change sterile and non-sterile dressings
  • Maintain clinical supply of patient care supply
  • Manage the fit testing program, which includes maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment, accurately fit testing for N95 masks for tuberculosis
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKG’s, vision screening, vaccine administration, TB Testing, color blind screening for groups out of compliance
  • Plan and schedule annual audiograms for the departments in hearing conservation program
  • Plan and schedule Fit Testing. Prepare and calibrate equipment daily prior to use
  • Assisting in other EOHW roles and duties when needs are known, at any one of the EOHW's clinic, located in Durham or Raleigh, NC

JOB SKILLS

Strong written and oral communication skills. Self-directed with ability to adapt to a changing environment. Strong problem solving with ability to prioritize, planning, dependability, detail-oriented and highly organized, knowledge of medical terminology. Experience with Word, PowerPoint, Excel programs desired.

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING

1. EMT- Complete a state approved accredited EMT education program and be certified as a North Carolina EMT.

2. Licensed Practical Nurse- Graduation from an accredited program and licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina.

3. Certified Medical Assistant-Graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). High school or GED graduation required. Certification by AAMA or AMT required. Certification by AAMA preferred.

 

College degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

None required above minimum education/certification requirements. 1-3 years relevant experience preferred.
