Occ Summary

Perform a variety of nonprofessional nursing duties in the direct careof patients under the direct supervision of an RN/LPN.


Work Performed

Prepare patients, equipment an d supplies for specific procedures andprovide manual assistance as requi red.Obtain and record patient data for medical records noting and inform ingRN/LPN of information collected.Administer treatment and personal car e procedures to patients including,but not limited to, feeding, bathing,shaving, changing clothing,cleaning and trimming fingernails, bed-makin g,assisting withambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder eli mination;provide such additional care as required to meet the personal n eeds andcomfort of assigned patients.Participate in teaching activities byreinforcing teaching instructed byRN and/or physician as needed.Assist physician and nurses with physical examinations by helpingposition patie nts, changing non-sterile dressing and weighing patients.Take and record vital signs, record I&O, apply ice bags, administerdouches and enemas.No te and report any changes in patient's condition.Turn and position patie nts, set up and feed patients as necessary,provide patients with freshdr inking water.Perform fingersticks for blood glucose testing, with approp riatetraining.Assist with admission, discharge, and transportation ofpat ients.Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment asrequired.Collect, deliver and conduct routine tests on patient specime ns.Clean assigned area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment asreq uired.Participate in own professional development by maintaining require dskills validation and attending educational offerings. Support thedevel opment of other staff and formal learners.May also perform sterile dress ing change for wounds over 48 hours old,IV fluid assistance activities, oral/nasogastric feeding and urinarycatherizations/irrigation.Perform ot her related duties incidental to work described herein.

Currently listed as a Nursing Assistant I (NA I) with the Division ofFacility Services with no substantiated fi ndings of abuse, fraud,neglect or misappropriation of property.BCLS cert ification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hireorientation , which typically takes place during the first week ofemployment.
