Occ Summary Perform a variety of nonprofessional nursi ngdutiesinthe direct careof patients under the directsupervision of an R N/LPN.WorkPerformed Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for specifi cprocedures andprovide manual assistance asrequired. Obtain and record p atientdata for medical records noting and informing RN/LPN of informatio ncollected. Administer treatment and personal care proceduresto patien ts including, but not limited to, feeding, bathing, shaving,changing clo thing,cleaning andtrimming fingernails, bedmaking, assisting with ambula tion,enemas,skin care, and bowel and bladderelimination; provide such ad ditional care as required to meet thepersonal needs and comfort ofassign ed patients. Participate inteaching activities by reinforcing teaching instructed by RN and/orphysician as needed. Assist physician and nurse swithphysicalexaminations by helping position patients, changing non-ste riledressing and weighing patients. Noteand reports any changes in patie nt'scondition.Take and records vital signs, record I&O,applies ice b ags,administer douches and enemas.Turn andpositions patients, set up and feed patients as necessary, providepatients with fresh drinking water.Pe rform fingersticks forblood glucose testing with appropriate training.As sist withadmission, discharge, and transportation of patients. Followsta ndard precautions and use personal protective equipment asrequired.Perfo rm other related duties incidental to the workdescribed herein. Collect , deliver and conduct routine testson patient specimens. Clean assigned area; stock and replenishsupplies and equipment as required. Participa te in ownprofessional development by maintaining required skills validat ion andattending educational offerings.Supports the development ofother staff and formal learners. Perform other related dutiesincidental toth e work described herein. The following may beperformed as determinedby the individual DUHS entity: Steriledressing change for wounds over48hou rs old, IV fluid assistanceactivities, oral/nasogastric feedingandurinar ycatherizations/irrigation. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities *Workingknowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures thatare applicable toworkpe rformed. *Working knowledge of proceduresand techniques involvedinadmini stering routine and special treatmentsto patients. *Workingknowledgeof s anitation, personal hygieneand basic health and safety precautionsapplic able to work in ahospital.*Working knowledge of the organizationand phys icallayout of the hospital. *Working knowledge of infectioncontrolproced ures and safety precautions. *Able to withstand prolongedstandingand wal king with the ability to move or lift at least 50pounds.*Abilityto under stand and follow oral and writteninstructions. * Abilityto document and communicate pertinentinformation. *Ability to establishand maintain effe ctive workingrelationships with patients and hospitalstaff.*Working know ledgeof principles and practices of providing non-professional bedsidepa tient care. Minimum Qualifications


Education

Completion of a Level I - Nurse Aide education program approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or successful completion of the NC - approved Nurse Aide I competency test. High School diploma or equivalent required.

Currently listed as a Nursing Assistant I (NAI) with the Division of Facility Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud, neglect or misappropriation of property. BCLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation, which typically takes place during the first week of employment.
