Job Summary

North Carolina Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat, a Duke Health Practice, invites applications for a highly qualified Advanced Practice Provider to work in collaboration with attending physicians, collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations, and provide direct patient care services. Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm with flexibility to meet clinic needs. The APP must be comfortable working in an autonomous environment and comfortable knowing when to seek advice from other members of the medical team. New graduates will be considered. The APP will be provided formal training, if needed, and have readily available access to physician and non-physician back-up when needed.

 

North Carolina Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat has a 110-year tradition of providing advanced, friendly, caring treatment to patients with five locations throughout the Durham/Cary/Chapel Hill area. NCEENT is part of Duke Health Integrated Practice, the physician practice of Duke University Health System. The multispecialty practice has five otolaryngologists, 13 ophthalmologists, two optometrists, nine audiologists, and four speech-language pathologists.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide timely patient access for new and established patient visits, including pre-scheduled appointments, urgent and non-urgent add-ons, and appointments made at the request of another provider to provide continuity of care.
  • Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, record the data in the patient’s record and write thorough progress notes.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including (but not limited to): nasal endoscopy, nasopharyngoscopy, laryngoscopy, epistaxis control, biopsies, microscopic ear examination and debridement, suture removal and wound management.
  • Order laboratory studies and diagnostic imaging. Interpret diagnostic test results including (but not limited to): Audiograms, MRI, CT, lab results, culture results, and pathology results.
  • Prescribe necessary treatment (both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic).  Make
  • appropriate medical referrals when indicated.
  • Utilize our electronic medical record system to: review charts, document clinic notes, perform video visits, communicate with patients, provide test results, renew prescriptions, communicate with staff, and work with insurers for prior authorization.
  • Coordinate patient care by communicating with medical providers from both within and outside our institution.
  • Maintain all documentation and certification required by law to practice medicine as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the state of North Carolina.
  • Participate in clinic meetings, huddles, safety protocols and drills.

Job Eligibility Requirements

 

Education           

  • Nurse Practitioners:  Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants:  Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

 

Certification 

  • BLS required.

 

License                

  • Nurse Practitioners:  Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
  • Physician Assistants:  Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

 

Experience          

  • 1+ years of APP experience required.
