We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join our Duke Department of Radiology Neuroradiology team at the Duke University Hospital - Duke Medical Pavilion located at 10 Medicine Circle in Durham, NC to work in partnership with our physicians and team of advanced practice providers to deliver exceptional and innovative patient care by collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies and professional consultations, and providing direct patient care services. 

 

Job hours

Primary hours Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM; however, flexibility in scheduling is expected and may be required, based on clinical needs, patient volumes, access initiatives, or operational requirements. Your hours may include extended morning or evenings (i.e., before 8am or after 5pm). Final schedule and site assignments will be coordinated with your supervisor and communicated in advance.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • After receiving supervised on-the-job training, perform image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (including lumbar punctures and myelograms) to assist physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care
    • Record the normal and abnormal data for review by the physician
  • Triage patient phone calls, take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the data in the patient's record; document image-guided procedures using approved templates, document progress notes and narrative discharge summaries; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings
  • Provide telehealth and face-to-face clinic visits to referred patients of our Neuroradiology CT Spine Intervention service. Participate in managing the ongoing care of patients.
  • Work closely with the supervising physician to determine appropriate treatment plans for each patient and surgical needs. Complete all necessary paperwork for scheduling and assist physicians with submission of clinical documentation and/or peer-to­peer requests for insurance preauthorization
  • Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedure to the patient.
  • Integrate education, research, leadership, and consultation into their clinical practice. The ACNP or PA-C will demonstrate this through nursing and resident education, participation in the division’s research mission and projects, hospital committee membership and leadership, and providing continuity of care for hospital staff, patients, and their families.
  • Participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician.
  • May make work assignments for assigned nursing and technical personnel; review the work of other staff; train new personnel.
  • Participate in teaching medical students and Advanced Practice Providers students in techniques and procedures which are unique to specific clinical setting.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education           

  • Nurse Practitioners:  Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants:  Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

 

Certification 

  • BLS required.

 

License                

  • Nurse Practitioners:  Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. National certification as a NP required.
  • Physician Assistants:  Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • DEA license required.

 

Relevant Education and/or Experience      

Prefer 1+ years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in orthopedic, spine or other related services. Or, an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Proven focus on delivering patient-centered care and collaborating with team members at all levels to provide a seamless patient experience.

 

Preferred Departmental Skills

  • Interactive leader with effective communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and use a process-oriented approach to identify, prevent, and/or resolve issues. Proficiency with computer platforms and applications
