Job Summary
We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - in our Duke Health Orthopedic Spine and Pain Management clinic located in Mooresville, NC. The APP will work in collaboration with the attending physician and APP to provide direct patient care services to Orthopedic Spine patients in the clinic and hospital setting as well as - Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with RNFA certification n- first assist in the operating room.
The APP contributes to excellence in patient care and consulting and provides leadership to the organization and healthcare professions.
In-patient consults and surgery are performed at Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital.
Job Hours
Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients. Includes orthopedic spine surgery, rotational on-call responsibilities and inpatient rounding including weekends.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide care for patients needing spine and general orthopedic care.
- Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies, assisting with peri-operative workflow including scheduling, pre-ops, and post-op follow-up, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
- Carry out therapeutic procedures such as, wound suturing and dressing changes.
- Monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of each patient's progress, consulting with the supervising physician when patient's progress does not meet anticipated and/or predetermined criteria.
- Refer general orthopedic patients to other services as needed to meet the needs of the patients.
Experience
- 2+ years of General Orthopaedics Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant work and surgery experience with Orthopedics - Spine patients.
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
- Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
- Physician Assistants: Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification
- If a Nurse Practitioner, RNFA certification required.
- BLS required.
License
- Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in the state of North Carolina. National certification as a NP required.
- Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
