Non-Duke Student Hire

 

Research assistants (RA) support research projects by helping investigators with a variety of study duties within assigned research projects. Tasks assigned to the RA may include and are not limited to input on study development, preparation of study materials and resources, recruitment and outreach, participant interfacing for data collection, data evaluation, data preparation, data management, and participation in dissemination of study findings.

 

SKILL AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Excellent organizational skills, professionalism, and a demonstration of strong interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual in written and spoken Spanish and English.
  • Ability to learn and use several technological tools, including REDCap, DukeBox, Microsoft Office, and potentially software for coding and analyzing data (e.g., NVIVO).
  • Willingness to approach and interface with individuals about grief, death, and loss. 
  • Previous research experience and/or familiarity with research and data collection methods is beneficial.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Specifically, the person in this position will assist with a dissertation study within Duke School of Nursing which is focused on examining grief experiences among Latinx families in the US who are living through the loss of a child.
  • Responsibilities for the current position include, but are not limited to, assisting the PI with study material development and refinement, data collection, and data management including cleaning AI generated transcriptions of interviews conducted in Spanish.
  • Completion of research ethics and compliance training will be required (e.g., CITI, data collection and management, Responsible Conduct of Research, HIPPA, etc.)
  • This position is responsible for assisting with human subjects-related research tasks following established research procedures and protocol to ensure participant protections are preserved.
  • The job includes assisting the PI with recruitment and data collection activities from bereaved Latinx adult caregivers while ensuring research ethics and compliance guidelines are followed. These activities may include helping with the consenting, collecting survey data through REDCap, and potentially conducting semi-structured qualitative interviews.
