Occ Summary

Perform a variety of nonprofessional nursiassisting withambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elimination;provide such additional care as required to meet the person alneeds andcomfort of assigned patients.Participate in teaching activiti esbyingRN/LPN of information collected.Administer treatment and personal carngduties in the direct careof patients under the direct supervision o f anRN/LPN.


Work Performed

Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for specific procedures andprovide manual assistance as r equired.Obtain and record patient data for medical records notingand inf ormeprocedures to patients including,but not limited to, feeding, bathin g,shaving, changing clothing,cleaning and trimming fingernails, bed-maki ng,reinforcing teaching instructed byRN and/or physician as needed.Assis tphysician and nurses with physical examinations by helpingposition pati ents, changing non-sterile dressing and weighing patients.Take and recor dvital signs, record I&O, apply ice bags, administerdouches and enemas.N oteand report any changes in patient's condition.Turn and position patie nts, set up and feed patients as necessary,provide patients with freshdr inking water.Perform fingersticks for blood glucose testing, with approp riatetraining.Assist with admission, discharge, and transportation ofpat ients.Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipmenta srequired.Collect, deliver and conduct routine tests on patient specimen s.Clean assigned area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment asrequ ired.Participate in own professional development by maintaining required skills validation and attending educational offerings. Support thedevelo pment of other staff and formal learners.May also perform sterile dressi ng change for wounds over 48 hours old,IV fluid assistance activities,or al/nasogastric feeding and urinarycatherizations/irrigation.Perform othe r related duties incidental to work described herein.

Completion of a Leve l I - Nurse Aide education program approved by theNorth Carolina Board o f Nursing or successful completion of the NC -approved Nurse Aide I com petency test.High School diploma or equivalent required.

Cur rently listed as a Nursing Assistant I (NA I) with the Division ofFacili ty Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud,neglect or mi sappropriation of property.BCLS certification must be maintained/complet ed by the end of new hireorientation, which typically takes place during the firstweek ofemployment.
