JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Medical Assistant in our Dermatology of South Durham clinic located in Durham, NC to be an integral member of the healthcare team to provide direct and indirect care to patients.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to Joint Commission, Environment of Care and Infection Prevention guidelines reviewed in monthly EOC, TJC and IPL rounds.
- Obtain and record patient data for medical record when rooming patients per Dermatology Guidelines. Guidelines include but are not limited to: reviewing the patient’s chief complaint, asking the patient their preferred pharmacy, verifying the patient’s listed existing allergies. Inform RN/LPN of information collected. New allergies and medication review are to be handed off to an RN or CMA.
- Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as required.
- Assist with specimen collection and labeling as instructed by RN/PA/MD
- Participate in teaching activities by reinforcing teaching instructed by RN and/or physician as needed.
- Restock rooms.
- Collect patient vital signs.
- Clean and package surgical instruments for sterilization.
- Run autoclave.
- Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein.
- Participate in own professional development by maintaining required skills validation and attending educational offerings. Support the development of other staff and formal learners.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred. High School diploma or GED graduation required
- Work generally requires six months of experience in the healthcare setting. Education in a health related field can be used as a substitute for the experience.
- Must be fully certified as a Medical Assistant (AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA) within 18 months of hire.
