Title: Marching Band Staff Assistant
Position Summary:
The position of the Marching Band Staff Assistant will work within the Athletics Department at Duke University. This position will be responsible for assisting with the operational needs of the marching band. The staff assistant is responsible for the organization of student meals, assisting with travel plans, coordination of instruments for distribution, repair and replacements, and assisting with operational needs for performances.
Essential Functions:
• Coordinate travel and meals for student band members for camp, trips, games, tournaments, banquets and other special events
• Manage proper instrumentation for performances at football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and other sport games and other scheduled special events.
• Coordinate the distribution, repair, replacement or any loaned instruments
• Maintain inventory of reeds, lyres, office supplies, paint and apparel
• Assist with the communication of performance details between the band and clients
• Assist with the recruitment of band members
• Track and facilitate uniform distribution, repair and cleaning
• Maintain and organize band storage areas
• Coordinate and track purchases for budget purposes
• Assist with the operational needs of the band truck including registration and inspection and other repairs as needed
• Maintain subscriptions for Pyware, BandWindow, Finale, FlipFolder, AABDA and additional subscriptions as deemed necessary
• Assist with website maintenance
• Additional duties as determined for the success of the marching band
Knowledge Skills and Ability:
• Outstanding written and oral communications skills
• Demonstrated organizational skills
• Work generally requires two years of clerical experience to acquire skills in administrative duties
• Ability to lift approximately 40 pounds

Anticipated Pay Range:
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD $25.00 per hour. Education:
Work requires knowledge of basic mathematical, research, and communications principles normally acquired through two years of postsecondary education.
Experience:
Work generally requires two years of clerical or research experience to acquire skills in administrative or project research responsibilities as well as accepted office organization, communications, and research practices. A bachelor’s degree in a field of study directly related to the specific position may be substituted for the education and experience requirement.
