OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Supervise and participate in the construction, installation, renovation, modification, and repair of Duke University Medical Center electrical appliances, systems, facilities and related electronic controls and devices.
WORK PERFORMED
- Supervise and participate in the construction, installation, renovation, modification, and repair of electrical appliances, systems, facilities and related electronic controls and devices by interpreting blueprints, manufacturers specifications, written and verbal instructions. Plan and schedule work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.
- Provide project management for certain electrically oriented projects that require specific and direct supervision of construction and renovation activities.
- Ensure that employees and contract labor are properly trained to perform duties; ensure a safe work environment; ensure compliance with Duke Health and JCAHO safety regulations.
- Ensure appropriate documentation of records to comply with applicable regulations and codes.
- Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
- Supervise various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation scheduling.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES
Education/Training
- Requires educational background normally equivalent to high school plus 2 years of formal technical training in the principles of electricity and electrical designs.
- Requires current North Carolina electrical license and successful completion of the exam for licensure at the unlimited level.
- OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
Experience
Work requires 6 years of journeyman's experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures; experience in a leadership role is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
Six (6) to eight (8) years of experience required either in a specific field or in general building maintenance and repair; supervisory skills and experience required.
