Occupational Summary
Employees in this position are responsible for assisting with the overall operation of the Campus Mail Services Center. Duties include receiving and distributing mail, performing daily mail-related activities, and supporting other assigned functions.
Work Performed
- Perform various clerical functions and process correspondence, including U.S. Mail, Inter-Campus Mail, and packages, for internal departments across campus locations.
- Provide timely mail and package delivery to faculty, staff, and students within Duke University and the Health System distribution network.
- Drive Campus Mail Services (CMS) vehicles to assigned mail delivery routes, transporting U.S. Mail and packages to specified Duke locations.
- Pick up and deliver mail correspondence at internal departments or mail substations. Assist with special mailing and bulk mail projects at designated locations.
- Sort, pitch, and deliver mail by department and mailbox number; bundle mail using rubber bands or ties according to route and destination.
- Collaborate with CMS management and other employees to foster a team-oriented environment. Handle high-peak mail volumes and multitask efficiently.
- Maintain daily records and activity logs, reporting inbound mail and package volumes received.
- Coordinate and participate in routine pick-up and delivery of outbound U.S. Mail, ensuring proper fund codes and documentation are used in compliance with department protocols.
- Operate computers and office equipment, including computerized mail equipment, tracking systems, and handheld devices.
- Navigate and perform research using computer-based applications such as Box/Parcel Manager, SC Logic, and Duke Directory to locate mail and packages.
- Comply with all Duke University and Campus Mail Services department policies and guidelines.
- Perform other department-related duties as assigned.
Supervision
- Receive specific and general verbal instructions from Campus Mail Services Management as needed.
- Assistant Manager and Logistics Supervisor provide direction for day-to-day operational duties

Minimum Qualifications
Education
High school graduate or its equivalent is required.
Experience
This work requires one year of relevant education and/or clerical work experience. Work may require lifting and carrying up to 70 lbs. Valid NC Drivers License required.
