Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Durham Pediatrics

Durham Pediatrics at North Duke Street is a trusted, high-energy clinic providing expert care for newborns, children, teens, and adolescents. With a dedicated team of board-certified pediatricians, the clinic serves 16,000 patients annually, offering comprehensive services like well-child check-ups, immunizations, physicals, and in-clinic testing. Specializing in managing chronic conditions, behavioral health, and common illnesses, the clinic is committed to supporting children’s health and development. Location: 2609 North Duke Street, Suite 1000, Durham, NC 27704

 

Hours: 8am – 5pm Monday – Friday, with some Saturday morning commitment

 

What you will do:

  • Administer medications and IV fluids as prescribed by the doctor and maintain records.
  • Provide direct care to patients under the supervision of a nurse or doctor.
  • Follow the doctor's orders and nursing care plan for patient care.
  • Report patient responses to care to a nurse for evaluation and adjustments to the care plan.
  • Assist other healthcare staff in delivering patient care.
  • Help doctors and nurses with diagnostic procedures.
  • Assess nursing care, patient responses, and prioritize nursing tasks.
  • Help develop and implement policies to ensure patient comfort and safety and participate in creating new policies.
  • Contribute to maintaining the care environment, including equipment and supplies.
  • Identify and assist in improving clinical and operational performance.
  • Assist in managing supplies and equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the charge nurse.
  • Participate in training programs and help train new staff.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Education

  • Work requires graduation from an approved or accredited Practical Nurse program.

 

Experience

  • No experience required.

 

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

  • Current State of North Carolina LPN licensure is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Ability to find resources independently and work well with others
  • Clear communication with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, and leadership; able to teach patients and families based on the care plan
  • Ability to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up using sensory and cognitive functions
  • Competent in BLS and other required life support certifications
  • Proficient in fine motor skills
  • Accurately record activities and document interventions
  • Ability to use computers and learn new software
  • Navigate the healthcare system to provide patient care
  • Able to stand and walk for long periods
  • Stay focused and organized
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures relevant to the role
  • Familiarity with administering routine and special treatments to patients
  • Understanding of sanitation, hygiene, and health safety in a hospital setting
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Knowledge of and compliance with JCAHO and other regulatory requirements
