Duke University School of Nursing (DUSON) invites applications for the position of Lab Administrator within the Center for Nursing Discovery (CND). Reporting directly to the Director of the CND, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the nation’s leading simulation centers.
The CND is a state-of-the-art facility that supports DUSON’s mission of advancing health through transformative excellence in education, clinical practice, and nursing science. Through innovative instructional methodologies and immersive simulation experiences, the CND plays a vital role in preparing future nursing leaders.
Responsibilities:
As Lab Administrator, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth operation of simulation-based learning, supporting faculty and students, and maintaining the high standards that have earned the CND national recognition.
Programming state of the art healthcare manikins to deliver world class nursing education.
Coordinates and performs the use of simulation equipment in the Center for Nursing Discovery.
Work Arrangement: 100% On-Site
Anticipated Salary Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $ 43,888.00 to USD $70,300.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate' s work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
PREFERENCES
Experience: Work requires 1 year of experience to acquire skills necessary to develop and implement lab exercises, supervise and instruct teaching assistants, students and lab personnel and manage overall operations of the simulation lab.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Work requires knowledge of biological laboratory exercises, techniques and procedures generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program in in biology, botany, zoology, or a directly related field
Experience: Work requires 1 years of laboratory experience to acquire skills necessary to develop and implement skills and simulation experiences, supervise and instruct work study students, and manage overall operations of the laboratory.

Operational & Administrative Support (30%)
- Assists with the setup of lab equipment and spaces coordinating with the CND Lab Administrator.
Technical Management & Simulation Coordination (40%)
- Programs complex simulation scenarios for manikins, standardized patients, and virtual events, including healthcare provider orders, labs, x-rays, and simulated data.
- Trains faculty and CIs in the operation of simulation software and advises on the best modality of simulation equipment to meet the learning objectives.
- Trains and supervises student workers on technical responsibilities within the CND.
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive plan for the continued update of all software and firmware for technical devices in the CND.
- Coordinates with Technical Operations Coordinator in monthly SON-IT meetings to implement Duke OIT and Duke Health technology requirements for CND technology.
- Coordinates with Facility Operations department on CND needs including facility repairs, mailing, and delivery of equipment.
- Maintains and implements best practices in simulation.
- Creates a realistic simulated healthcare setting using moulage on manikins, task trainers, and standardized patients.
- Provides voice of the patient or serves as a standardized patient when needed during simulation scenarios.
- Conducts and evaluates lab activity “technical walk-throughs” before the activity with CND staff and faculty.
- Recommends and/or makes necessary changes in materials, techniques, or procedures to optimize the value of the simulation.
- Schedules and performs recordings of simulation activities in the LearningSpace video capture system.
Maintenance of Simulation Equipment (30%)
- Performs routine, ongoing maintenance and minor repairs to simulated equipment including calibrations and cleaning in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations.
- Diagnoses issues with malfunctioning equipment and makes recommendations for substitute/replacement equipment to ensure continued student learning.
- Coordinates with external vendors and recommends cost effective repairs of equipment including scheduling on-site service, shipping to the vendor for repair, or replacement of equipment.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date maintenance records.
