Lab Research Analyst II

Here at the Duke Human Vaccine Institute (DHVI), we value collaborations, and pride ourselves in providing an excellent environment for academic and professional growth. The DHVI continues to lead cutting-edge vaccine research against infectious diseases that impact global health. Basic science discoveries made using a variety of human and pathogen-derived proteins, designed, expressed and purified by a collaborative DHVI team have contributed to the identification of vaccine and therapeutic candidates currently being produced in Good Manufacturing Practice facilities for early phase human clinical trials and pre-clinical animal models. Dr. Williams is seeking a self-motivated and committed individual with a passion for science to be a team lead responsible for overseeing study designs, experimental scheduling, and data collection, analysis and interpretation that will be culminated into presentations for scientific meetings as well as manuscripts. This proactive candidate will have exceptional analytical skills and familiarity with handling large scale scientific datasets.

Responsibilities

 

  • Project oversight
    • Work with research teams to plan scheduling of animal studies, and subsequent experimental studies to assess these samples
    • Work with research teams to track samples and schedule experiments for assessment of samples (for example, cells from blood and tissues)
    • Develop databases to track study information and experimental results
  • Generate graphs, tables and figures depicting the results from different experiments
  • Sequence analysis of antibody genes isolated from different studies in humans and non-human primates
  • Compilation of data from different studies within a project to maintain tracking system for data management
  • Develop and implement electronic lab notebook (ELN)
  • Identify and implement tools for data provenance
  • Archive experiments in a manner that is scientifically justifiable, reliable and understandable to others
  • Track work and compliantly order materials and reagents associated with numerous projects under multiple grants
  • Review primary data with your supervisor
  • Closely follow all standard operating procedures.

Education, Skills, & Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of masters in biological science or related field
  • Experience with large scale data analysis, including statistical analysis and data management preferred 
  • Must be able to manage multiple and rapidly changing priorities and have ability to quickly learn new skills
  • Must be detail-oriented, well organized with strong communication skills and ability to work in an interactive team environment.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.

 

Experience

Work requires four years of research experience. A related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience.
