Lab Research Analyst I

We are seeking a qualified and talented Lab Research Analyst I to join our structural biology team. The primary overall responsibilities of the position will be to support protein expression and purification for structural studies, perform biophysical, biochemical and virological assays, and assist in the management of the lab.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Perform the expression of proteins in commonly used systems (E coli, insect, mammalian).
  • Perform purifications that involve typical methodologies (IEX, SEC) and may occasionally involve the generation of specialized media for affinity chromatography.
  • Independently write and contribute to scientific manuscripts.
  • Independently write and contribute to the development of new protocols.
  • Independently perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting research laboratory assays, experiments and determinations to obtain data under standard operating procedure (SOP)-driven best practices; compile, analyze, and document primary data.
  • Train and guide junior staff on laboratory technique, safety, and standard practices. Major emphasis on cell culture.
  • Confer with Principal Investigator and laboratory leadership to review work assignments and develop plans for experiments; make modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of particular studies as required.
  • Attend all required training.
  • Interface with virology laboratories to perform assays in BSL3 settings.
  • Manage and complete all assigned tasks/projects in accordance with standardized operating procedures and in full compliance with all safety protocols.
  • Assist in managing laboratory space by keeping a well-stocked inventory and maintaining equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory notebook and other documentation in an orderly and accurate fashion for tracking work progress, experiments, and results.
  • Manage biological and chemical hazards in the lab -- MSDS's, chemical inventories, waste disposal, autoclaving, etc. as required.
  • Provide a summary of written work updates and plans each week.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator and laboratory leadership.

 

Education, Skills, & Experience Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in scientific discipline, health or physical sciences or a related filed; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum two years of relevant research experience.
  • Experience working in a BSL-3 lab required.
  • Experience in protein expression and purification desired.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
