Dr. Zhao Zhang’s laboratory (ZZ-Lab) in the Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology at Duke University School of Medicine is seeking an experienced and motivated Lab Manager.  Our laboratory seeks to understand the biology of transposons and extrachromosomal circular DNA in cancer. The ideal candidate will coordinate and perform a variety of administrative and technical activities related to budgeting, stocking, experimentation, training, and management of lab resources.  Experience with cell culture and animal husbandry is a plus, but is not required.  We will consider candidates who are seeking a temporary position (minimum 2 years strongly preferred) but with preference for those interested in the position for long term.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Organize, order, maintain, and update equipment, computer hardware, software, and consumable supplies as needed.
  • Provide regularly scheduled data backups to a data server.
  • Ensure compliance of the laboratory facility with all relevant institutional regulations regarding laboratory safety and environmental management.
  • Assist faculty in preparation of budget projections and recommendations.
  • Organize and maintain cell banks for the lab.
  • Organize lab events and meeting schedules.
  • Maintenance of minimal amounts of animal colonies when necessary.
  • Perform routine experiments.
  • Training of new lab personnel in lab protocol.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Requirements:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences
  • Prior laboratory and/or management experience to develop and implement biological laboratory exercises and manage overall operations of the laboratory.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment both independently and as part of a team.

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.

 

Experience

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience.
