Position Description:

Our research focuses on identifying cellular and molecular mechanisms of immunosuppression and immunotoxin-mediated antitumor response in animal models of brain tumors. We aim to support our ongoing clinical trials and improve brain tumor patient outcomes through preclinical therapy studies. Our research is funded by federal and foundation grants. 

 

We seek a highly motivated candidate for a laboratory research analyst (LRA1) position to perform cell culture, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, and animal research using brain tumor models. This candidate will work alongside a talented team of researchers under the supervision of the Principal Investigator in the Department of Neurosurgery. 

 

Primary Responsibilities 

· Perform essential cell culture work on human and mouse cells for in vitro and in vivo studies. 

· Design and perform molecular assays, including but not limited to DNA/RNA isolation for next-generation sequencing testing by external vendors, PCR, qPCR, SDS-PAGE gels, western blot, and ELISA. 

· Perform experiments in mice, including breeding, intracranial surgeries, intraperitoneal/subcutaneous injections, weighing, post-surgical monitoring of animals, and preparation of tissues for flow cytometry, histology, RNA/DNA/protein isolation. 

· Operate laboratory equipment required for specific tests. 

· Prepare and maintain reagents, buffers, and media for experiments. 

· Maintain records and documentation of sample acquisitions and all work performed in an organized lab notebook and a shared institutional database. 

· Prepare and execute work independently, with minimal input from the supervisor or principal investigator. 

· Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to obtain information to aid in the design and development of procedures and techniques. 

· Generate graphs, slides, and protocols for presentations and publications. 

· Communicate results to the PI and other lab members in team meetings. 

· The position will involve supervising technicians and students. 

· Perform other related duties as required by the supervisor. 

 

Job Qualifications 

· Bachelor's or Master’s degree in biological sciences or other directly related scientific fields. 

· Work requires a minimum of 3-5 years of laboratory research experience. 

· A background in cancer biology is a plus. 

· Experience using preclinical mouse models of disease is a plus. 

· Ability to handle and troubleshoot tasks and prioritize research projects effectively. 

· Ability to work independently and as a part of a collaborative research team. 

· Must be detail-oriented, well organized, and approach laboratory procedures with critical thinking of the technical aspects. 

· Authorized to work in the US. 

 

Anticipated Pay Range:

 

Duke University offers an annual base salary range for this position of USD $50,439.00 to USD $76,417.00. Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology,psychology or other directly related scientific field.

 

Experience

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master'sdegree may offset required ye ars of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., atwo year master'sdegree in lie u of two years of experience.OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT ED UCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
