Occ Summary

Conduct a variety of investigations in the planning, development and implementation of experimental procedures within the overall scope of a research project at Duke University.

 

Work Performed

 

  • Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical or biological tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data in support of research-oriented activities; compile and document procedures and results. 
  • Operate laboratory equipment required for specific tests and perform laboratory work in support of research-oriented activities of the principal investigator and Duke University.
  • Maintain animal colony (mice) and perform laboratory animal handling and surgical skills including, intraperitoneal and intravenous injections, intracranial tumor implantations, post-surgical monitoring of animals, PD/PK studies, live animal imaging (bioluminescent and two-photon fluorescent imaging), in situ brain perfusions, maintenance of laboratory animal protocols, and tissue collection in support of research-oriented activities of the lab.
  • Prepare mouse tissue and specimens for immunohistochemistry procedures.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment.

 

The work is diversified, requires organizational skills and judgment in applying established practices and procedures. The individual should be capable of taking the initiative in planning and performing work each day and for weeks at a time. The candidate should be capable of working with others cooperatively and collaboratively. Capable of assisting with the preparation of proposals, manuscripts, procedures, and guidelines documents.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.

 

Experience

 

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
