Occupational Summary

(duties may include some or all of the following):

  • Design and perform molecular assays including but not limited to PCR, qPCR, Western blot, CRISPR knockout, RNA interference, bisulfite conversion, and plasmid design
  • Perform nucleic acid extractions
  • Prepare nucleic acid for next generation sequencing testing at third party vendor
  • Cell culture including lentivirus and retrovirus transductions
  • Operate laboratory equipment required for specific tests.
  • Oversee equipment preventative maintenance.
  • Learn ordering procedures to serve as backup ordering employee
  • Document, compile, analyze, and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results.
  • Prepare, present, and discuss data at lab meetings and journal clubs
  • Prepare and execute work independently, with minimal input from supervisor or principal investigator.
  • Review laboratory methods, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to the implementation and design of research experiments.
  • Document, compile, analyze, and interpret experimental results.
  • Work with principal investigator in planning follow-up experiments and lines of inquiry
  • Supervise and train students and research technicians.

  • Bioinformatics skills for the analysis of RNA and DNA sequencing, methylation array, and single cell data
  • Mouse modeling experience

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.

 

Experience

 

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's  degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
