The Office of Academic Solutions and Information Systems (OASIS) is looking for a passionate and motivated IT Analyst - Level 1 Backend Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the myRESEARCHome product line, supporting Duke’s research community, including the School of Medicine, Institutes, Centers, and Departments. You will be part of a team that builds custom software using user-centered design and agile development processes. Your work will directly contribute to advancing research at Duke University, making a tangible impact on the academic community.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and technical experience.
  • Working knowledge of most of these technologies and concepts:
    • Agile Methodologies – Kanban, Iterative Development, Spikes, SCRUM
    • Object-oriented programming
    • Languages – Ruby, XML, HTML, JSON
    • Web Technologies – Rails, Apache, AJAX, REST, SOAP
    • Automated Testing – Cucumber, Rspec, WATIR, Continuous Integration Frameworks
    • Database – Oracle, PostgreSQL
    • Operating Systems – Windows, Mac OS, Linux
    • Source Code Management – Git
    • DevOps – Docker Containers, CI/CD processes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Javascript and Javascript frameworks (e.g., React.js)
  • Direct experience using object-oriented programming languages, developing web applications, web services, and/or back-end infrastructure for mobile applications

This position is Remote eligible (exempt-only) and must reside in a Duke University-approved state.

  • Feature Development: Take ownership of developing and deploying new application features and bug fixes. Write clean, well-factored code and ensure all application code is thoroughly tested.
  • Reliable Releases: Adhere to established source control and deployment practices to ensure reliable product releases. Contribute to system and user documentation to support seamless application use.
  • Comprehensive Support: Participate in the OASIS Application Development firewatch pager rotation, providing level 3 application support. Troubleshoot application problems and deploy bug fixes and patches to maintain smooth operations.
