Position Summary

The Golf Car Attendant / Player Assistant is a dual-role seasonal position at the Duke University Golf Club. This role supports golf operations by ensuring all golf cars are clean and prepared for use, while also maintaining a smooth flow of play on the course to ensure a high-quality golfing experience for all guests.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

Golf Car Duties

  • Wash, clean, dry, and return all golf cars to their designated rows in the storage barn

  • Restock golf cars with scorecards and pencils in proper placement

  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the golf car barn and surrounding area

 

Player Assistant Duties

  • Monitor pace of play to ensure groups complete 18 holes within the established time frame

  • Patrol the course (riding opposite the direction of play) without interrupting players

  • Politely move along slower groups when necessary to maintain the pace of play

  • Record data on the number of players and golf cart usage

  • Remind players of golf course rules and share daily instructions as needed

  • Assist players with finding lost balls and resolving minor issues that may delay play

  • Monitor cleanliness of the course, including waste disposal areas

  • Check receipts of all players at the first tee prior to starting their round

  • Assist with tournament operations as needed

  • Support pro shop staff throughout the shift with various operational tasks

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds

  • Self-motivated and proactive

  • Comfortable enforcing rules respectfully and professionally

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education:

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions typically acquired through partial high school education

 

Experience:

  • No prior experience required

  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
