The School of Nursing is seeking a highly skilled Financial Management Analyst III to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in managing and coordinating a wide range of financial functions that support the School’s mission and strategic goals. You will lead the annual budget process, prepare detailed financial analyses, and provide actionable insights to senior leadership. Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Six years of experience in financial management, cost accounting, or a related area.
- OR equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or MBA.
- Expertise in multi-level, complex budgeting processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data modeling).
- Experience with Adaptive Insights and SAP.
- Ability to integrate AI into financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and forecasting skills.

Essential Duties
- Budget Management
- Manage and oversee the School’s annual budget process, including submission, review, and adjustments.
- Plan, develop, and maintain recommendations for adjustments to ensure short and long-term financial needs are met.
- Serve as primary liaison in preparing budget in coordination with management center and university deadlines.
- Prepare annual tuition market analysis and related graphs.
- Prepare personnel-related budget items (including effort distribution) with the Senior Business Manager.
- Maintain records showing chronological audit trail of budget development decision-making and communication.
- Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Prepare regular reports on performance of School against budget and highlight areas of concern.
- Identify areas of financial risk, propose mitigation strategies, and assist with implementation.
- Create, model, and propose financing strategies to improve financial performance.
- Provide financial reconciliation and analytical reporting for tuition revenue and enrollment projections.
- Review monthly reports from Operations Financial Analyst to assure accuracy and provide feedback for improvements.
- Systems & Compliance
- Function as primary administrator and user for all financial systems, providing training and oversight.
- Act as second-level approver for Buy@Duke, CONCUR, and journal vouchers.
- Provide SAP support and training for SON department staff.
- Strategic Planning
- Complete annual faculty salary analysis and ad-hoc analyses related to budget.
- Participate in strategic planning by analyzing program plans and developing financial models and forecasts.
- Act as departmental liaison regarding University policies and budgetary control; represent leadership in meetings.
- Other
- Prepare statistical and financial data for senior management and external agencies.
- Prepare ad hoc analysis as needed.

Anticipated Pay Range:
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $74,251.00 to USD $139,220.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
