General Description of the Job Class

 

Prepare financial reports, assist in the preparation and writing of annual footnotes, perform accounting research, and prepare information for 990 filings and other tax-related items. Collaborate closely with various departments to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting throughout DUHS.

 

 Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

 

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for DUHS. This includes journal entries, cash flow statements, and supporting schedules related to the consolidation of DUHS financial statements.
  • Prepare annual footnotes and external audit schedules. Research new accounting pronouncements and impacts of new transactions on DUHS’ financial statements and disclosures.
  • Prepare information and schedules for 990 filings and other tax-related items.
  • Provide financial information for surveys and other ad hoc reporting needs, along with performing specialized assignments in your area of expertise.
  • Coordinate and communicate well with various departments throughout DUHS and Duke University in preparation and compilation of above noted financial deliverables and requests.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and management of financial systems and/or financial policies and procedures as appropriate. Help drive process improvement initiatives in accounting, reporting, and finance applications.
  • Prepare, update, and maintain documentation related to work performed.

 

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

 

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.  MBA or MSA preferred. CPA is desirable. 

 

Experience

 

Work requires a minimum of six years of progressive financial auditing, reporting, or system experience including knowledge of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and FASB standards.

Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) Standards

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail

Advanced computer skills on MS Office, SAP and Oracle Hyperion experience preferred
