ELECTRICAL ENGINEER I

 

Occupational Summary

 

Manage and coordinate the maintenance and construction of utility plant electrical systems at Duke University including performing necessary analysis to assist in planning and execution of the work.   Provide support of Campus building electrical systems as needed.  

 

Work Performed

 

  • Coordinate and monitor the maintenance and renovation of the all University utility plants electrical systems. 
  • Attend weekly plant coordination meetings and coordinate work with other impacted disciplines.
  • Develop utility shutdown request forms including list of impacted equipment.  Communicate impacts to necessary operations teams.
  • Develop and supervise the execution of electrical switching procedures associated with construction or maintenance projects.  Troubleshoot plant electrical distribution and equipment as needed. 
  • Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, trends, and appropriate recommendations for plant electrical systems. 
  • Perform plant walk-throughs to check for operation issues with the plant electrical systems.
  • Update utility plant training modules as needed.  Train operations/maintenance staff on the plant electrical systems. 
  • Use computerized maintenance management system for inventory evaluation and management of maintenance activities. 
  • Maintain utility plan one-line diagrams and electrical panel schedules.

Education/Training

Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in an electrical engineering field. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

 

Experience

Work requires a minimum of three years’ experience in design, planning, maintenance, and evaluation in facility electrical systems.  Experience in a utility plant setting preferred OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
