Title: Director of Sports Performance, Men’s Basketball
Position Summary:
Duke University is seeking a qualified candidate to be the Director of Sports Performance for the Men’s Basketball program. This position is responsible for design and oversight sports performance programs for the Men’s basketball student-athletes.
Essential Functions:
- Work with basketball coaching staff to establish player and team needs for performance development each year.
- Design and oversight of performance development programs (including mobility and strength work, power and speed development, movement assessments, athlete monitoring, and recovery planning) to enhance basketball specific movements and energy system development, improve performance in competition, and promote resilience and general health and wellness.
- Schedule team workouts and manage safe operation of all Weight Room team activities.
- Collaborate with Basketball Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist on return-to-play programs for injured student-athletes.
- Tracking and monitoring data assessment and performance, wellness, and readiness metrics relevant to the program.
- Work with the Sports Science Director on appropriate implementation of sports science technology into the training needs of the team.
- Support the team Dietitian in the development of nutritional programs that promote performance enhancement and overall health and wellness for all athletes
- Perform all duties in compliance with NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength & Conditioning, or related field required
- National Certification in Strength and Conditioning (CSCS or SCCC) held for a minimum of 3 years
- Minimum of 5 years as a sports performance coach at the collegiate or professional level with a minimum of 2 years of professional staff supervisory experience at the collegiate or professional athletics level.
- CPR/First Aid Certification required.
- The candidate must also possess strong organizational and communications skills.
- Professional demeanor and high standard of ethics and integrity pertaining to collegiate athletics.
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse workplace, with sports medicine and nutrition professionals, and support staff.
- Technology skills, including computer-based software, and mobile device applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or higher in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength & Conditioning, or related field required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Sports Performance Coach for a Division 1 or Professional Basketball team.
