Job Title: Director of Development - Duke Women's Basketball

 

Position Summary: The Director of Development for Duke Women's Basketball is responsible for creating and implementing strategies to achieve the program’s annual and long-term fundraising goals, with a strong emphasis on major gifts. This position reports to the Deputy Director of Athletics for Development and is housed within Athletics Development (Iron Dukes). The role involves generating innovative fundraising concepts, ideas and leads, traditional philanthropy from athletic donors, alumni connections, key corporate stakeholders, and new families and donors entering the Duke community, as well as partnering with Women’s Basketball to explore and implement non-philanthropic revenue programs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic fundraising initiatives to diversify and expand revenue streams from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other sources, ensuring long-term financial sustainability.
  • Garner support for the Women’s Basketball Varsity Club by securing major gifts (six-figure and above).
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with potential donors, alumni, corporate partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Women’s Basketball program to identify and execute new revenue concepts.
  • Leverage existing connections through Duke and the Head Coach to identify new philanthropic leads.
  • Create and implement fundraising campaigns and events to engage the Duke community and attract new donors.
  • Analyze market trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities for growth and innovation.
  • Prepare and present business proposals and reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Work with the external team to identify revenue and engagement opportunities surrounding game day. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with direct demonstrated success in fundraising/development/business development.
  • A record of measurable results in developing and leading campaigns such as major gifts, annual funds, corporate and business development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated in initiating contact with prospects.
  • Skilled in using a donor database, prospect research, and other wealth screening tools to aid the moves management process—experience with Salesforce is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • A positive team player who promotes innovation and collaboration and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
  • Must adhere to the highest ethical standards.

Work requires sharp attention to detail, strong written communication skills, a high-level of customer service, and analytical and organizational skills.
