Duke Health Development & Alumni Affairs is a hybrid workplac e. All team members must live within the local area, have access to, and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet serv ice. The ability to work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools is a must.  At the discretion of the manager, som e positions will be required to work in our office located in Durham, NC for a specified number of days per week.


< p>Occupational Summary:

The Director of De velopment, Duke Health reports to the Senior Executive Director of Devel opment, Duke Health and develops fundraising programs and strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward grateful patients, and friends of Duke Health Medicine, Surgery and Clinical Care areas, including the Department of Medicine and areas involved with solid organ transplantati on for significant gifts to fund projects and priorities.

This individual will be a fundraiser, builder, strategist and creative and collaborative problem solver. They will work to build and enhance collaborative relationships with individuals across assigned are as and Duke Health Development and Alumni Affairs with a goal to advance fundraising. 


Work Performed:</ u>

Fundraising 70%
Grow and manage a pool of prospe cts capable of making gifts of $100k or more, from identification to ste wardship.  Portfolio and prospect pool will focus on grateful patients a nd their families.

Identify and qualify prospe cts, develop and cultivate relationships, develop gift strategies for pr ospects in partnership with faculty 
and leaders, solicit majo r and leadership level gifts, and negotiate and successfully close gifts . 

Coordinate and ensure effective stewardship andrecognition of donors’ philanthropy.

Coor dinate and collaborate with colleagues on all Duke Health fundraising te ams to ensure comprehensive coverage of prospects and donors.

Write or assist in drafting proposals and other material s as necessary; assist with publicity arrangements on important gifts, p rograms, accomplishments or events.

Strategic Planning and Program Implementation 20%
Forge strong partnersh ips throughout the organization, establish and maintain regular communic ation with faculty physicians to build a successful faculty physician gr ateful patient referral program.

Work closely with faculty leadership in assigned areasto develop compelling strategi es, priorities and collaterals that align with campaign priorities and D uke Health’scentral missionsof research, education and care. 

Build annual and long-term goals for philanthropy in a ssigned areas. 

Assist administrators and facu lty in the identification and prioritization of institutional and depart mental funding needs; keep abreast of institutional programs. 

Develop, evaluate and refine plans and timetables for d epartmental or theme assignments; assist in planning and/or directing cu ltivation events or programs.
Partner effectively with colleag ues across Duke Health. 

Serve as a member of the Individual Giving fundraising team and help donors see the relations hip between patient care and the underlying science, research, and educa tional needs withinDuke Health.

Coordinate an d collaborate with colleagues on all Duke Health fundraising teams to en sure comprehensive coverage of prospects and donors. 
Portfolio Development and Management 10%</ u>
Successfully maintain and manage a portfolio of major gifts prospects. 

Follow proc edures in coordination with the Office of Gift Records to ensure effecti ve collecting, recording, accounting, acknowledgement and follow-up on a ll private gifts to assigned departments.

Deve lop contact reports and enter moves and data into tracking databases.</d iv>

Work successfully with colleagues across the ins titution to collaborate on prospects with multiple interests.

A proven track record of success in personall y cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding meaningful philanthropic suppo rt from individuals, foundations, or corporations. A high level ofcomfo rt and effectiveness working with high-net-worth individuals and busines s executives.

Must have a creative and collabo rative approach to problem solving, and strong critical thinking and ana lytical skills. A high level of energy, self-confidence, optimism, and t he ability to function at peak levels in a high expectation environment are essential.  

Superior communication skills , bothoral and written. Must be able to communicate effectively with a large/diverse audience, including senior administration, board members, donors, prospects, colleagues, staff, physicians, faculty, and other con stituents. 

Must be able to navigate a matrixe d organization and appreciate and thrive in a complex academic medical e nvironment.

Must be a self-starter with a sens e of urgency, a clear set of priorities, and the ability to adapt to and lead through changing circumstances in an environment where working acr oss boundaries and leveraging strengths are necessary.

Successful candidates must have a high level of competency in collaborating with others, goal and task management, information seeking , decisiveness and judgment, ability to influence, flexibility, dealing with ambiguity, written and oral communication, listening, organizationa l awareness and leadership.

Anticipated Pay Range:

 

Duke U niversity provides an annual base salary range for thisposition as USD $ 76,628.00 to USD $153,254.00.
