The Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University is looking for a Director of Career Services and Professional Development (CSPD) to join our team. In this crucial role, you'll develop and direct strategy and operations for career services and professional development in our Master's Program (EMP). You'll have the opportunity to impact the success of our students by preparing them for internships and careers through career education, coaching, professional development workshops, and employer relations.
Daily, you'll lead a highly skilled team, assess and design programs to meet the diverse career needs of our students, and collaborate with stakeholders across the university. You'll also engage directly in career services activities to support our goals and understand student needs.
Minimum Requirements:
- Requires a minimum of a Master’s degree in higher education, organizational development, engineering, or related field
- Required 6+ years managing career teams in higher education
- Direct experience managing programs for international students, engineering students, and/or as a working professional in an engineering field
- Demonstrated success in achieving ambitious goals and implementing creative approaches to career education and support
- Experience in employer development and relations
- Highly collaborative approach and demonstrated success in engaging stakeholders in complex organizational landscapes
- Ability to set clear goals and communicate proactively and clearly with key stakeholders and staff
- Comfort and skill in planning, adapting, and leading others in the context of ambiguity and change
- Demonstrated commitment to completing work efficiently and by designated deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to prepare budgets and budget forecasts and effectively steward funds
- Balance of strategic leadership, tactical planning and implementation, and getting work done as an individual contributor
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with career services, employer relations, and professional development programs
- Experience in conducting and participating in studies and surveys related to placement trends, employment opportunities, and salaries
- Ability to manage personnel activities to meet University and departmental objectives in training, equal pay, equal employment, and wage and salary administration

- This position is hybrid eligible. The position is partially remote, and the employee must reside in a Duke University-approved state.

Position Description:
- Lead overall strategy development and direct the implementation of career services and professional development for Pratt master’s students and recent alumni.
- Assess student needs and interests on an ongoing basis and develop programs that bridge their academic interests and career goals.
- Serve as EMP authority on topics affecting career outcomes, including international student employment issues.
- Provide direction for outreach efforts involving alumni, employers, and other external constituents.
- Develop and implement comprehensive data collection, analysis, and reporting plan to inform stakeholders about team activities and career outcomes.
- Supervise and coordinate work of CSPD team staff, ensuring clear communication and balanced workloads.
- Manage budget projections, prepare departmental budget needs, and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.

Anticipated Pay Range:
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $ 70,019.00 to USD $140,038.00.
