Working Title: Director of Business Operations, Women’s Basketball
Position Summary:
The Director of Business Operations for Women’s Basketball at Duke University is responsible for overseeing and aligning the business operations of the program with a strategic focus on revenue generation, NIL advancement, donor engagement and brand development. This individual will serve as a key advisor to the Head Coach/Sport Administrator and a cross-functional leader connecting internal and external stakeholders to elevate the program’s national profile.
Work Performed:
Revenue Strategy & Growth
· Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive revenue generation plan targeting $8M+ annually through donor relations, corporate partnerships, NIL activations, game day activations, and experiential platforms.
· Oversee and refine revenue sharing strategies to ensure equitable and impactful distribution aligned with team goals and individual value.
· Partner with Iron Dukes and Learfield to cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts and corporate sponsorships.
· Lead premium donor engagement strategies, including in-game activations, themed events, and hospitality experiences in conjunction with Director of Revenue Development for Women’s Basketball.
· Collaborate with marketing, ticketing, and Learfield to ensure seamless delivery of high-impact experiences for fans, donors, and partners.
· Monitor game day performance metrics and fan feedback to optimize revenue-driving strategies.
· Maintain a real-time revenue dashboard to track donations, sponsorships, and business performance metrics.
NIL Leadership & Athlete Branding
· Build and lead a compliant NIL strategy, including athlete brand valuation, partnership matchmaking, and long-term brand development.
· Serve as a program-wide liaison between athletes, compliance, donors, partners, and institutional leadership.
· Provide strategic guidance and educational programming to empower athletes to maximize their NIL opportunities.
Roster Management & Program Planning
· Collaborate with Head Coach and support staff on strategic roster management, including scholarship planning, NIL-related decision making, and long-term recruiting infrastructure.
· Develop systems that integrate business intelligence into recruiting and retention decisions.
· Align player development, NIL, and financial models to support competitive success and holistic athlete support.
· Integrate a roster value framework to help assess the athletic, academic, and marketability impact of each athlete on the program’s ecosystem.
Strategic Planning & Campus Integration
· Develop a multi-year business and branding roadmap in collaboration with program leadership.
· Act as a program ambassador with internal and external stakeholders, including campus leadership, donors, alumni, and community organizations.
· Evaluate and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), ROI, and impact metrics across all business areas.
Operations & Innovation
· Create and execute business and operational plans tied to strategic goals, including fan engagement, donor experience, and branding efforts.
· Develop reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, including Head Coach, ADs, donors, and advisory boards.
· Lead cross-functional collaboration across Duke Athletics departments including compliance, development, alumni, marketing, communications, and student-athlete services.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree required.
· Master’s or JD preferred.
· Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in athletic administration, development, business operations, or corporate sponsorship.
· Proven track record of building and managing revenue-generating programs, preferably within a high-performance sports or entertainment context.
· Strong understanding of collegiate athletic operations, roster strategy, NIL regulation, and compliance frameworks.
· Demonstrated ability to build donor pipelines and close major gifts.
· Experience developing and managing cross-functional strategic plans.
· Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
· Familiarity with Teamworks, INFLCR, or other athletics CRM/NIL platforms.

Anticipated Pay Range:
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $ 61,465.00 to USD $125,000.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Education
Work requires a general business background generally equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a business related field.
Experience
Work requires 4 years related business or administrative experience to acquire competence in applying general personnel practices, accounting and budgeting principles and coordination of major administrative functions.
