Minimum Qualifications
Work requires communication and analytical skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. A valid North Carolina Driver’s License is required.
Extensive specialized experience and certification in healthcare security management through the International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS), with knowledge of the Clery Act, HIPAA, CMS, and Joint Commission requirements.
Work requires knowledge of security management and operations in a healthcare setting, generally acquired through four years of related experience, including two years of supervisory experience.

What You’ll Do:
- Manage performance to ensure quality outcomes by establishing performance standards and goals for security operations, benchmarking with other agencies, understanding and meeting priorities, and developing inspection and monitoring systems to ensure compliance.
- Collaboratively develop standards by incorporating input from officers, healthcare staff, leadership, and industry practices.
- Track and analyze data to inform operational and strategic security decisions.
- Develop and implement security policies and procedures in compliance with hospital policies and state and federal laws.
- Ensure compliance with security-related standards of The Joint Commission and base procedures on recommendations from the International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) and applicable Duke policies.
- Assist in crafting healthcare security policy.
- Supervise, educate, train, and mentor healthcare security personnel.
- Serve as the Campus Police representative on various committees and keep the Director, Health System Security informed.
- Provide consultation to Duke University Health System entities on security measures and technologies related to new construction or renovations, consistent with Health System guidelines and IAHSS recommendations.
- Work collaboratively with the Director, Health System Security and hospital leadership to develop consistent security policies, measures, and technologies.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with hospital leaders and directors, Campus Police, first responders, and prison and jail managers.
- Work to reduce the risk of workplace violence among healthcare clinical staff and Campus Police staff; recommend and support risk-reduction efforts and serve on behavioral assessment teams.
- Maintain the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information, using and disclosing only the information necessary to perform job functions.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage special events and dignitary visits.
- Supervise and/or conduct security programs for hospital staff and others as needed.
- Work closely with Health System Emergency Management to ensure coordinated response efforts.
- Evaluate and assess physical security technologies and operational processes.
- Analyze incident data and recommend processes to reduce harm.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $78,161.00 to USD $156,319.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
