Job Summary

We have an opening for a full-time Department Coordinator, with time shared between the Duke Team Store and University Store. This position reports to the Assistant General Manager, Retail Specialty Stores. The Department Coordinator is responsible for both front-end activities (assisting customers, operating a cash terminal, and merchandising products) and back-end duties (ordering and receiving).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Operations: Oversee day-to-day operations of the Team Store and University Store to ensure retail sales floors are properly arranged, sized, and grouped according to store standards. Evaluate inventory movement and advise management on product display and relocation.
  • Event Support: Assist with the preparation and staffing of the Clothing/Gift Concessions Program for various athletic games to ensure full coverage.
  • Merchandise Handling: Receive incoming merchandise transfers, verify packing slips for accuracy, ensure UPCs are properly linked in the Sequoia system, and ensure items are priced correctly. Coordinate with the Distribution Center for timely deliveries.
  • Inventory Management: Perform monthly cycle counts and maintain accurate inventory levels to meet customer needs. Address inventory issues with store management and recommend solutions.
  • Clerical Duties: Perform routine clerical functions for accurate departmental records, process incoming and outgoing forms and documents, and participate in merchandise inventories.
  • Customer Assistance: Assist customers in product selection, recommend additional purchases, answer inquiries, resolve complaints, and adhere to loss prevention policies.
  • Cash Handling: Operate point-of-sale cash registers, process cash and non-cash transactions, and enter new inventory products into the Sequoia system ensuring correct margins.
  • Supervision: Monitor the work of lower-level and student employees, and notify the supervisor of unresolved issues.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Education: High school education with knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles to maintain inventory counts and handle sales transactions.
  • Experience: At least 6 months of retail store experience, including cash register operation, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
