POSITION SUMMARY

Plan, design, build and maintain technology-based administrative business solutions.  Assist in analyzing and formulating high-level software strategies and solutions through functional and technical expertise. 

 

DUTIES AND WORK PERFORMED:

Analyze business operations, procedures, functions, organizational structures, workflow, and audit requirements to identify solutions.

 

Participate in development of long-term planning for new projects, applications, and methods.  Serve in an advisory capacity to business customers on system functionality, data, and potential applications.  Research and evaluate relevant technologies and present alternative solutions.

 

Document business and technical specifications to clearly communicate how things should work.  Including, but not limited to narratives; data elements; data gathering and verification; accounting, auditing, and security requirements. 

 

Develop, test, and implement approved applications, including reports, interfaces, and data conversions.   Adhere to and enforce software development methodology on projects for consistent results.  Follow departmental procedures for the preparation, execution, and validation of change control documentation. Test and debug programs to verify accuracy and completeness.  Design and execute user acceptance testing and procedures. 

 

Maintain, tune and repair applications in order to keep them performing according to technical and functional specifications; perform preventive maintenance activities; provide user support.

 

Communicate and coordinate with business decision makers to ensure accurate understanding and acceptance.

 

Prepare and maintain forms, documentation, and manuals as needed for effective implementation, maintenance, and continued operation of applications.  Prepare and participate in user training and education as needed.

 

Maintain communication with other University data processing operations, professional organizations, vendors, and user groups to ensure ongoing technical competence, evolution, and innovation.

 

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate development and manage projects and resources to ensure timely delivery of applications and services that meet business and technical requirements. Provide technical leadership and programming support to other team members.  Conduct team meetings, project and code reviews to promote consistency, reusability, and knowledge transfer.

 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

 

Education:

BA or BS (Computer Science or related field preferred) or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
