Clinical Services Nurse - Registered Nurse - Pediatric Plastic Surgery
Job Location – Duke University Hospital
Job Hours
1.0 FTE position, Monday-Friday, 8am – 5pm.
Job Summary
The Pediatric Plastic Surgery Clinical Service Nurse collaborates with members of the healthcare team to enhance patient care by providing evidence-based clinical care and patient / family education to patients with complex urologic problems. The Clinical Service Nurse is a dynamic and positive role model for nursing staff.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Phone calls
- Triage post-operative questions or concerns
- Triage non-surgical questions or concerns
- Troubleshoot management of surgical concerns
- Provide results to patients (e.g. labs, imaging)
- Follow-up with patient results (e.g. labs, imaging)
- Follow-up with DME companies (re: supplies)
- Assist with medical/supply refills
- Paperwork
- Supplies (communicating with DME companies)
- Certified letters of medical necessity (CMNs), written standard orders
- Patient letters and forms (accommodations re: surgery, management)
- FMLA paperwork
- School forms
- Prior Authorizations
- Starting, completing, and following up
- Communicating with pharmacies
- Communicating with insurance providers
- Supplies (communicating with DME companies)
- Procedures
- Post-operative suture removal
- Post-operative catheter removal
- Patient Family/Education
- Provider Education
- Post-operative care of surgical patients for nurses in DCT
- Clinic flow/triage/troubleshooting for nurses in CHC
- Clinic Duties
- Review reasons for visits with patient/family and communicate delays when providers occupied
- Schedule, change, and cancel appointments as needed
- Schedule, change, and cancel ORs as needed
- Pre-operative teaching
- Organizing and scheduling pre-operative testing for patients as needed
- Placing orders
- Assisting with medication refills
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
- Graduate of an accredited BSN program
License
- Current unrestricted RN license issued by or recognized by the NCBON
Certification
- Prefer RNs with CPN
Experience
- Minimum 12 months applicable RN clinical experience is required
OR equivalent combination of relevant education and/ or experience
Physical and mental requirements:
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, clinical practice standards, and scope of a nurse clinician role.
- Able to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others.
- Able to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, perform health assessments, treatment, and follow-up.
- Able to use fine motor skills
- Able to record activities, document assessments & interventions; prepare reports and presentations
- Able to use computer and learn new software programs
- Able to provide leadership in clinical area of expertise and in meeting organizational goals
- Able to navigate the Hospital and DUHS to provide clinical expertise to specific patient populations
- Able to withstand prolonged standing and walking with the ability to move or lift at least fifty pounds
- Able to remain focused and organized
