Clinical Nurse II- Duke Children's at Creekstone

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse II in our Duke Children’s Specialty Creekstone clinic located in Durham, NC to be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients. 

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient intake including: obtaining vital signs (including manual blood pressures), administering survey tools, conducting educational assessments (patients/guardians), medication review, assisting patients with preparing questions for provider visit, assisting patients with ambulation/toileting
  • Completing procedural tasks including: administering specialty medication injections, provide teaching for self-administered injections, insulin administration/verification, oral medications according to protocols and provider orders. Full assessments as needed. Monitor patients for potential reactions to therapy administered. Provide patient/family education for specialty injections and assess for understanding, bill for nursing procedures. Assist with clinic procedures- joint injections, IUD/Nexplanon insertion/removal, recognize and troubleshoot inconsistencies in patient response, report to provider. Perform EKG, POCT, assist with prior authorizations and triage as available. 
  • Documentation in electronic health record.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care provider, including but not limited to: Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants/Registered Medical Assistants.
  • Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of patient care and serve as a team leader. 
  • Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
  • Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
  • Support the development of other staff and formal learners. Participate in the identification of clinical, operational and safety related performance improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in clinic or entity level performance improvement activities.
  • Actively participate in unit staff meetings and committee meetings with minimum 80% attendance. 
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

 

Job Eligibility Requirements:

  • Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program.
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date.
  • Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required.
  • Twelve months of pediatric experience is required.
  • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
