JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Clinical Dietitian in our Duke Perinatal of Durham located in Durham, NC.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meets with patients individually or in a group setting and collects patient assessment data, using the American Education of Diabetic Educators (AADE) framework in a collaborative and ongoing manner.
- Develops educational goals, learning objectives, and a plan for educational content and teaching methods with the patients in collaboration with the physician.
- Effectively provides educational interventions utilizing appropriate methods such as interactive, collaborative, and skill-based training methods.
- Collaboratively develops an individualized follow-up plan with each patient.
- Provides wellness education and encourages patients be proactive about their health
- Instructs patients about diet as well as the role of diet and exercise in the management of the diabetes.
- Teaches patients correct portion sizes, healthy food choices, and which exercises are appropriate.
- Teaches patients proper method of calculating insulin doses, giving insulin injections, and storing insulin
- Teaches patients the proper use of the glucometer to check blood glucose levels.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Baccalaureate degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or comparable major.
- Successful completion of coordinated program or dietetic internship of not less than 900 hours under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian.
- One year in an acute care environment preferred; experience may be waived for specific positions.
- Registered dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration; candidates eligible for registration may be hired with the expectation that registration will be achieved within 90 days of hire.
- Licensed dietitian/nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition; provision for license-eligible dietitians as above.
JOB HOURS:
The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
