Occupational Summary
The Climate Program Manager is a member of the Office of Climate and Sustainability (OCS) and has responsibility to assist in and provide oversight of the programmatic success of the Duke Climate Commitment (DCC), in collaboration with other key DCC leaders. They provide support as needed to ensure activities are carried out to meet timelines and achieve stated objectives. A background and experience in climate- and/or sustainability-related subject matter is needed.
Work Performed
Operations, Administration, and Project Management of Duke Climate Commitment programing 40%
Plan, coordinate and administer assigned Office of Climate and Sustainability project(s) to include developing and implementing procedures, processes, services, and systems to ensure projects are on track. Make operational and programmatic decisions necessary for successful achievement of program strategies and objectives.
Lead administration and development of agendas/support material for Office of Climate and Sustainability leadership team including for meetings as needed. Support other meetings as needed.
Contribute to the management of Office of Climate and Sustainability projects by monitoring project progress and managing timelines; participate on calls and in meetings with partners, faculty, students, alumni and staff.
Assist Office of Climate and Sustainability leadership team in coordination of interested faculty, staff and student involvement in Office of Climate and Sustainability activities. Potential management of interns and student employees through onboarding, offboarding, providing guidance and assigning work products.
Provide operational and logistical support for Duke Climate Commitment governance structure, including staffing meetings of committees and/or subcommittees that comprise the governance structure.
Provide programmatic support for work related to the DCC’s research and community partnerships mission areas. Serve as staff liaison for these mission areas of the DCC.
Draft correspondence and reports; prepare presentations as needed.
Financial oversight, grant administration, budget planning 30%
Provide administrative support to program initiatives including overseeing different areas of expenditure and coordinating financial management for reporting purposes. This may entail assisting with tracking program expenses, development and maintenance of project budgets, and grant proposals. Provide Office of Climate and Sustainability leaders with regular reports on status of all awards and subawards for OCS/DCC projects.
Assist with implementation of and provide administrative support for seed funding programs for research projects.
Monitor and verify expenditures of programming.
Ensure compliance with University and funding sponsors’ policies and procedures.
Prepare administrative reports for submission to sponsoring agency.
Event planning, coordination, and support 20%
Support in the planning and managing events of varying sizes and purposes for outreach/educational programming. Duties include planning and coordination of logistics, developing and managing program budget, planning program details such as speakers, venues, outreach, and publicity.
Program Evaluation 10%
Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness using qualitative and quantitative research techniques. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders doing evaluation to ensure evaluation metrics
Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare oral presentations and/or written reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires communications, analytical, management and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. Additional education or experience welcomed. Experience or education related to climate, environment or sustainability content is required.
Experience
Work requires the ability to plan and administer programs and direct program activities within a specific functional area, generally acquired through four years of related experience or equivalent combination of relevant education or experience.
