Occupational Summary
Perform calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance on a variety of electric and electronic OEM and 3rd party control equipment to achieve better utility plant and building system operation; provide technical guidance and direction to other employees; provide technical support to contracted vendor work and projects.
Work Performed
- Inspect, test, calibrate and repair a variety of electric and electronic equipment including such hardware as sensors, terminal equipment controllers, control panels, input/output panels, ultrasonic flow meters, steam meters, water meters, and relay panels by interpreting control diagrams, manufacturer specifications and written and verbal instructions.
- Monitor building automation systems (BAS) and programmable logic controller (PLC) systems to achieve better equipment operation and energy efficiency.
- Develop and schedule diagnostic and data collection reports from BAS and SCADA systems.
- Survey areas and update control graphics as needed on all control systems.
- Troubleshoot and document control systems problems, determine cause of malfunction or systems failure, advise others of appropriate corrective action.
- Carry out approved maintenance, documentation, inventory, and repair duties in accordance with instructions and maintenance schedules within the Infor EAM CMMS.
- Support engineers and Energy Management Group and System Managers on development of preventive maintenance schedules and long-range work planning.
- Be prepared for after-hours and weekend on-call activities and rotation coverage.
- Provide technical guidance and instruction to lower level employees, other Duke staff, and vendors in troubleshooting and/or repair procedures.
- Work with Energy Management and IT networking personnel on troubleshooting automation system communication issues.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training: |
Work requires an educational background normally acquired through a high school education plus 2 years of formal technical training in electricity or electronics.

Experience: |
Work requires a working knowledge of control systems normally acquired through 5 years of experience in the installation, inspection, operation, testing and repair of electrical and electronic control systems. Have working knowledge and experience with Building Direct Digital Control (DDC) and SCADA Systems. Experience with Induction Automation Ignition, Siemens Insight, Siemens Desigo CC, Schneider Electric ICONICS, Rockwell Automation, and Honeywell HC900 systems preferred. Two years of calibration experience with documented processes preferred. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION

Anticipated Pay Range:
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $ 25.18 to USD $41.63.
