Position Summary

The Consumer Reports Audiovisual Materials Intern will inventory and perform initial processing on audiovisual materials held in the Consumer Reports Audiovisual Materials collections at the Rubenstein Library. Along with this survey of materials, other duties will include matching digital with analog resources, creating a reformatting plan, and publishing one or more finding aids for the materials. All tasks will be done under the supervision of and in consultation with the Hartman Center Archivist and the Audiovisual Archivist.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and inventories audiovisual materials, including film reels, magnetic video reels and cassettes, ¼” audio reels, and other formats, capturing technical and descriptive metadata.
  • Initially processes materials based on series developed in coordination with the Audiovisual Archivist and Hartman Center Archivist.
  • Identifies relationships between digital and analog material using metadata from several sources.
  • Creates a reformatting plan.
  • Publishes finding aid(s) for the material using ArchivesSpace.

Qualifications

Familiarity with audiovisual materials; experience with archival processing; working knowledge of computer-based technology in libraries, including the use of an integrated library system; and a working knowledge of principles for description of manuscript collections, such as DACS.

 

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds and unpack, shelve and shift large quantities of library materials;
  • Must be able to work in an environment in which exposure to materials containing dust and mold is possible
  • Frequent bending, crouching, stooping
  • Normal office environment

Hiring Rate

$16.50 per hour. The position is not eligible for University fringe benefits or moving, housing, or relocation expenses.

Hours

This internship is a temporary, part-time position available for up to 19 hours per week from January 2020 - June 2020, with the possibility of extension. Hours are flexible within a M-F, 8:30-5:00 work week (some evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be required), but interns are expected to set and maintain a consistent schedule.
