Occupational Summary

The Clergy Resource Specialist will play a key role in identifying, developing, and disseminating relevant resources to our stakeholders, including DDS faculty, staff, and alumni, NC UMC clergy and denominational leaders, TDE funders and friends, and a general audience, both academic and lay.

Work Performed

Resource Identification – 25%

  • Work closely with the Director of Communications and Clergy Engagement Specialist to determine which resources for clergy well-being are most needed, actionable, and timely based on data from our team’s researchers and what we are hearing from clergy and stakeholders.
  • Create individualized communication strategies for each resource, including clarifying key collaborators, objectives, audiences, tactics, messages, and metrics.
  • Communicate rationale behind communication timelines and strategies in regular 1:1, team meetings, and researcher meetings, taking initiative to inform and collaborate with internal collaborators at each stage of the process.

Resource Development – 50%

  • Write, edit, and oversee design of resources, which may be in the form of research reports, handouts, curricula, campaigns, and multimedia content, and are grounded in theology, with particular attention to United Methodist beliefs, and the psychology of behavior change.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with key leaders at DDS, the NC UMC Conferences, and TDE such that resources are responsive, connectional, and wholistic in nature.
  • When necessary, manage freelancers and interns to produce content to support resource development plans and goals.

Resource Dissemination – 25%

  • Partner with DDS, the NC UMC Conferences and TDE on resource dissemination to ensure resources are well-publicized, utilized, and integrated into systemic efforts.
  • Attend key events with DDS, NC UMC, and TDE stakeholders where resources can be shared; when necessary, facilitate the sharing of those resources in presentations and/or workshops.  
  • Provide feedback related to additional resource dissemination strategies on our own website, newsletter, social media, and other communication channels to ensure resources are accessible.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires communications, marketing, strategic planning, analytical and organizational skills generally required through completion of bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, English or a related field.

 

This position prefers a completion of a master’s degree in divinity, theology, or social work and at least four years of experience working in a university, ministry, or communications setting

 


Experience:

Requires four years of experience in journalism, public relations, marketing or related field with experience posting and publishing through print and electronic mediums, including content management systems. Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills necessary to manage and coordinate a variety of tasks. Experience working in an academic environment is preferred.

The ideal candidate would be an ordained United Methodist Church clergy person themselves and have broad knowledge of evidence-based well-being resources that can address the theological, psychological, and practical needs of pastors.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $61,535.00 to USD $95,880.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
