Occupational Summary
A formal Clinical Research internship opportunity for recent college/university graduate within the Precision Rehabilitation and Innovation in CardioMetabolic Disease (PRIME) Lab under the direction of PIs- Dr. William Todd Cade and Dr. Senthil Selvaraj, and CRC Dr. Stephanie Milosovic. Incumbents are assigned responsibilities designed to provide exposure to and gain an overall understanding of the lifecycle of a clinical research project. The internship will generally involve a combination of learning and research support activities under the mentorship of the above PIs and CRC. Incumbents will receive regular and ongoing feedback from the mentors. The maximum duration of the internship is 2 years.
Work Performed
Collect experimental data for research protocols, including working with research subjects, running experimental procedures, and transferring data for the studies established by the PRIME Lab PIs.
Key research support responsibilities this intern will have within the CRU/PRIME Lab:
- Assists in maintaining study-specific equipment and processing of research samples
- Assist Clinical Research Personnel with the following study activities: participant recruitment, screening, and enrollment; obtaining informed consent; completing non-complex study visits under supervision; completing participant follow-up; preparing for study visits; and completing post-study visit items such as cleaning and data saving. Specific activities for the PRIME lab may include exercise testing on a treadmill/cycle ergometer using a metabolic cart, strength testing (universal and isokinetic dynamometry (Biodex)), vascular ultrasound studies, body composition measurements, and distribution of study interventions.
- Assists with managing and documenting Investigational Product (IP), including arrival, storage, tracking, and provision to research participants.
- Assists with managing and documenting study-approved devices, including arrival (as appropriate), storage, tracking, and provision to research participants.
- Data collection and entry for study visits
- May assist in the analysis of data with oversight from the PIs and study statisticians
- Assist with preparing grant, conference abstract, and manuscripts with oversight from PI and CRP
- Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments in the field of study
- Attend and contribute to lab meetings
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in clinical research. Maintain BLS certification annually.
Maintain ACLS certification annually. Valid driver's license required.
Experience
Some (0.5-1 year) clinical or research experience preferred.

Anticipated Pay Range:
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $ 18.00 to USD $25.97.
