CLINICAL RESEARCH COORDINATOR

Global and U.S.-based social science research in HIV prevention and treatment.

Duke Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) Core:

The Duke CFAR SBS Core (https://cfar.duke.edu/cores/social-and-behavioral-sciences) provides services to Duke investigators to enhance the conduct of innovative HIV-related social and behavioral science research in the U.S and globally. Our services include assistance with investigators with early planning and grant preparation, peer review, post-award consultation, training and capacity building, networking and community engagement, mentorship, and dissemination of study findings and manuscript preparation. The coordinator will work closely with the SBS Core Director and Associate Directors to deliver SBS Core services.

General Description:

Operations (85%):

This position will help coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Duke CFAR SBS Core. The main activities are to: (1) work with CFAR investigators to prepare NIH grant submissions (e.g., prepare literature reviews, write supplemental documents, correspond with partner organizations, write letters of support), (2) serve as the coordinator for the Duke CFAR SBS Core Health Equity inter-CFAR working group, which includes identifying and corresponding with webinar speakers and developing and facilitating methods-related workshops on health equity; and (3) serve as the coordinator for the SBS research capacity-building workshops with CFAR partners in Lower-and Middle Income Countries, including workshop development and implementation; (4) work with CFAR investigators to prepare manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals (e.g., prepare literature reviews), and (5) facilitate the SBS core’s consultation and other activities, including but not limited to facilitating peer reviews, preparing annual reports, planning for regular meetings and networking events, writing newsletters, maintaining a funding database, documenting the delivery of all SBS Core services, managing the SBS listserv and website, liaising with other Duke CFAR Cores and CFARs from other institutions, and organizing study design studios.  

Data collection, management, and analysis (15%):

This position will also work on projects with CFAR SBS faculty as needs arise, which may include 1) recruiting and scheduling interviews and focus groups, 2) developing study standard operating procedures, 3) consenting study participants, 4) conducting participant interviews and/or focus groups, 5) managing participant payments, and 6) preparing materials for team meetings.

Preferred Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training/Experience:        

1. A bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of five years of relevant research experience (or)
2. Completion of a master's degree plus a minimum or two years of relevant research experience

Skills:  

1. Can easily use computing software and web-based applications (e.g., Microsoft Office products)
2. Experience with qualitative methodologies, online survey tools, scientific literature databases, and web content management
3. Experience with supporting research studies, particularity with completing literature reviews
4. Professional written and verbal communication
5. Excellent organizational skills and a detail-oriented working style
6. Experience preparing and maintaining budgets preferred

Special skills:

Preferred candidates will 1) possess strong project coordination skills, 2) have experience working on qualitative research studies, 3) have experience in conducting systematic literature reviews; 4) be able to write and speak clearly in a variety of settings and styles to convey messages and ideas effectively; and 5) be able to work with diverse populations from a variety of settings.

All projects require team-based work that lends itself to extensive collaboration; in-person meetings facilitate this type of collaboration more readily. The position must be able to work regularly at the downtown Durham (NC) office.

Completion of an Associate's degree

Experience

Work requires a minimum of two years of relevant research experience. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for 2 years required experience.
