Duke University is looking for a detail‑oriented professional to support routine clerical and record‑verification activities. In this role, you will help ensure the accuracy of records, assist callers and visitors, and support smooth office operations. You’ll be the person who keeps information moving correctly—verifying documentation, resolving discrepancies, handling inquiries, and making sure essential administrative tasks are completed efficiently.

This position is ideal if you enjoy organizing information, solving small but meaningful problems, and helping others navigate processes or find answers.


Job Requirements

  • Ability to verify records against source documentation
  • Ability to communicate with internal offices, external vendors, patients, and insurance representatives
  • Ability to answer questions about departmental policies and procedures
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment such as a microfilm reader, calculator, data terminal, telephone, and typewriter
  • Ability to handle mail processing, supply ordering, and general office support tasks

This position is onsite.

  • Match records against source documents to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Resolve discrepancies by contacting the appropriate Duke office or external party and ensuring corrections are made
  • Assist callers with general questions, concerns, or complaints
  • Compose and send form letters to patients, customers, and agencies requesting information
  • Operate office equipment and post information to records or ledgers
  • Order and issue supplies as needed
  • Sort, route, and prepare incoming and outgoing mail
  • Perform other related duties that support daily office operations

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education

Work requires a knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles normally acquired through a high school education.

 

Experience

Work requires three months of clerical or general office support experience to become familiar with activities involved in providing routine clerical support. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD $22.84.
