Occupation Summary

This position serves the University community by providing opportunities for personal religious growth and development through the many facets of ministry: worship, counseling, workshops and studies, and opportunities to respond to human need within and beyond the University community. 

 

Work Performed

The Chaplains who are employed on a part-time or full basis by the different church agencies are members of the Duke Religious Life Staff. The appointment of these persons is a joint appointment made by the church agency and Duke University. The church agencies are responsible for providing the salary for these persons. As a sign of Duke's commitment to this work and of the chaplains' responsibility not only to the church but also to the university, Duke provides the chaplains with a $720 a year stipend and limited services (i.e., office space and telephone, library and parking privileges).
